Holistic Education Research Papers

The idea of holistic education, involving both the mind and the body, was born in Ancient Greece. The relation between the health of the mind and the health of the body is discussed by Plato in the dialogue Timaeus. Plato advised exercise as an essential, and effective, complement to intellectual activity. The history of the philosophy of education has numerous concepts that pay careful attention to the connection between mental and physical health. The perception of that connection is why physical education became part of the curricula in the irst place. As a student reconsiders his/her aims for a holistic education, it may be that his/her aims are only partially what one would traditionally call academic. This is in agreement with many beliefs in respect to a holistic education. Academic skills are certainly the vanguard of instruction; aims just mirror a changing definition of academic skills highly appreciated in our society.
