Holistic Learning Research Papers

With the length of the average working day getting longer and vacations getting shorter, the amount of spare time for busy managers is passing very quickly. Although many people would state that such a lifestyle is nothing else but a necessity of today’s fast-paced global economic society, one could also state that such a lifestyle begins much earlier in life. Not only businesses place pressure on their employees in order to stay afloat on the markets, increasingly, parents, teachers, etc. put pressure on students to succeed. Nowadays, even children have not enough free time for play because they have other things to do. Unfortunately, they are less exposed to fitness and recreation and as they enter their adulthood, these habits are not built into their livestyle. Consequently, as today’s students enter the life of grown-ups, they are confronted by the high-stress work and instead of having mechanisms to deal with such life routine, they often find it unbearable to cope with these lifestyles because they don’t know how to alleviate daily stress. Holistic learning is focused on the concept that learning should be grounded on wholeness or interlinkages. A holistic curriculum centers on a great variety of topics that consider the student as a whole person made up of body, mind, spirit, and emotions. It is apparent that such approach differs from a traditional curriculum that usually emphasizes first and foremost one aspect of a person: mind. Under this holistic curriculum the child development of the body would get equal attention as development of the mind.
