Homer’s story narrates about the heroic age and constructs the somewhat primitive value system that was ascribed to that age. His chronicle of the siege of Troy is considered to be one of the greatest myths of the ancient world. Although he tells only about the last year of the war, his account is the source many of the myths narrated today. Achilles, the greatest warrior of all times, is famous due to Homer’s account of his tale. This telling also comprises the story of the Trojan Horse, the most famous military lure – if the story doesn’t lie. Homer’s account of the siege of Troy with this great feat of deception by stratagem – the conception of Odysseus, the major character in the Odyssey – shows how a gigantic statue of a horse was built by the Greeks. This horse, hollow on the inside, was a gimmick in which the Greeks snuck into the city’s well fortified walls, and murdered Troyan people while they slept. After the fall of Troy Trojan dominance over the northern trade routes ended, and the power of Greece was firmly established for centuries to come. In addition, this event erased Troy from the known world until the 20th century. Courage and wisdom are main values in Homer and there is apparently a linkage between wisdom and virtue.
