Human Sexuality Research Papers

All human behaviour is driven by separate forces of biology, psychology and society. These forces cooperate in a supplemental and integral way, and it is necessary to consider all of them in order to understand human sexuality. Initially, human sexuality was defined as a biological need to reproduce, an ingrained instinct. However, after observing homosexual behavior in the lower primates, who certainly have no higher thoughts for procreation, scientists came to the conclusion that primates were engaging in sexual acts solely for pleasure, and reconsidered their theories. Today, the most popular explanation is that sex is nothing else but a psychological desire for sensory pleasure. The first principal explanation for the human sex drive is that psychological factors represent biological factors, so that when we are thinking about sex, our biological need is expressed. The second explanation for the human sex drive is that we get our patterns of sexual behavior by means of psychological and social mechanisms: sex is used by us as the means for obtaining and keeping love, it is an essential part of our amour-propre, it develops our sexual identity, and is an element of our moral and spiritual identity. Socially speaking, sex serves as a form of communication in a relationship, and is often a symbol of a person’s standing.
