From the viewpoint of a manager, Hygiene theory is very important since it looks at not only what can cause the employee satisfaction, but also what can cause the employee dissatisfaction. First and foremost, the theory has to do with the motivator factors, which increase job satisfaction, such as achievements, recognition, work itself, responsibility, promotion, and growth. The one thing that is noticeable in the list of motivators is that the factors are primarily internal motivators, which are often not taken into consideration by managers. Another list of factors is the list of the Hygiene Factors, which are the things in the workplace that spoil job satisfaction and even bring job dissatisfaction. It includes such factors as supervision, working conditions, salary, working relationships with peers, company policy, and security. The Hygiene Theory suggests both positive and negative factors that a manager may be able to see if he needs to understand the employee’s ethos.
